Get Experience - Overview

The Outwood Institute of Education offers a range of different experiences for those considering to train to teach, from sessions explaining what the programme is to time in the classroom.

Although school experience is not an entry requirement, we do believe it is important to have an understanding of what life as a teacher is like, so we encourage all future trainee teachers to get involved as much as possible. To find out more about our different experiences and events, please see below:

Career Experience Visits

  • Up to three days work experience in one of our academies finding out what life in the classroom is really like.

Academy Open Days

  • Hosted by one of our six teaching schools, these days offer a mixture of application advice, classroom observation and sample training sessions.

Experience Being a Trainee for a Day

  • Join one of our wonderful trainees for the day and find out what ‘a day in the life’ of a trainee is really like.

Information Events

  • Find out everything you need to know about our School Direct programme and routes into teaching.

Teacher Advocate Scheme

  • Speak to one of our teacher advocates to discuss what the teaching profession is like and why we think it is the best career there is!

Application Workshops

  • Learn top tips for completing a UCAS application.

Train to Teach Events

  • We attend the DfE Train to Teach events all over the north; find out where we will be and come and say hi.
